In a world under constant surveillance, nothing and no one can slip through the cracks of control.
A short film in italiano and English – Honorable Mention at Cannes Shorts Film Festival; a short play in español and English – finalist at the Festival de Microteatro El Pasillo Verde in Madrid (July 2022); a short play in English and français – part of Voilà! Europe Theatre Festival in London (Nov 2022) and now playing at the Out the Shell Scratch Night at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre in London in (Feb 2023.)
ENG – She helps out migrants in need. He’s an inspector from the International Department of Public Security. He’s looking for something in her office before opening times. He finds it just as she comes in.
What follows is not your usual interrogation. The frightening claws of bureaucracy get everywhere, and privacy loses all its meaning. It’s a disturbing game and language, too, plays its part in an unexpected twist. Nothing and no one must slip through the cracks of control.
ESP (Sigo recordando la calma de aquella noche) – Él es inspector del International Department of Public Security. Ella ayuda a los inmigrantes necesitados. Él busca algo en su oficina antes del horario de apertura. Ella le encuentra justo al entrar.
Lo que sigue no parece un interrogatorio rutinario. Las aterradoras garras de la burocracia llegan a todas partes y la privacidad pierde todo significado. Es un juego inquietante en el que el lenguaje juega un papel muy importante. Nada ni nadie parece poder escabullirse por las rendijas del control.
Sigo recordando la calma de aquella noche examina la idea del control y la intrusión continua en nuestra privacidad con el pretexto de la seguridad. Ya sean los gobiernos o alguna otra organización pública o privada, la realidad es que hay muy poco que podemos hacer sin que nos vigilen o incluso nos graben.
Debido a la labor que realizamos para lograr el sincretismo de los idiomas en el teatro, hemos utilizado el lenguaje y el cambio entre español e inglés para enfatizar el deseo de escapar de la protagonista y, sin embargo, la inevitabilidad, como si de un ratón de laboratorio se tratara, de ser atrapado.
ITA – Un ufficio assistenza migranti prima dell’orario di apertura. Un ispettore del Dipartimento di Sicurezza cerca qualcosa. Proprio quando sembra averla trovata, entra l’impiegata che non si aspettava certo una tale visita.
Un normale interrogatorio? Non proprio. Gli infiniti artigli della burocrazia che non conosce privacy possono arrivare dappertutto, in un gioco inquietante in cui l’elemento linguistico offre un twist inaspettato. Nulla sfugge e non si può scappare.
I Still Recall That Quiet Night è una riflessione sul controllo e sulla continua violazione della privacy mascherata dal concetto di sicurezza. Nato da un’idea di Fabiana de Rose, il corto è il frutto della collaborazione fra Teatro Multilingue, Wonderwall Entertainment e San Genesio Officine Teatrali.
